  • Yes. Receiving counsel is voluntary; a person may discontinue at any time should they disagree with the ‘Consent to Receive Counsel’ form required when requesting care.

  • Initial sessions typically last between 1-2 hours, while ongoing sessions are kept to 1 hour.

  • There’s no predetermined number of sessions since all situations are different and each person is at a unique place in their faith journey. We regularly discuss our goals and end sessions when people agree they are ready.

  • Higher Ground Biblical Counseling was originally established with the desire to provide counseling and discipleship without fees. To date it has been funded by people sharing a similar vision of providing help to those wanting to be counseled according to God’s Word. In 2024 we organized as a nonprofit organization and have 501c(3) status by the IRS. We are committed to continue this as a no-fee ministry.

  • Personal growth is not a passive endeavor, so applying what is discussed through various types of homework is expected.

  • Sessions are opportunities to know people and their struggles. We emphasize uncovering the desires, beliefs, and thoughts of the heart in order to bring the right truth at the right time. We rely on the Holy Spirit to reveal and provide what is needed in this process.

  • In-person meetings are preferred, but when it is impractical, we use Zoom or Google Meet.

  • Higher Ground Biblical Counseling Inc. does NOT provide counseling with state-licensed professional mental health providers or therapists. We do not incorporate psychotherapy or clinical psychology ideology. Our counseling is grounded in our religious practice of discipleship in the Christian faith according to the Holy Bible.
